Bobble Hat

Today I'm going to teach you how to make a hat that has these cool bobbles on it! Bobbles are like these little balls that hang off of your knitting, and are super fun!
MB (make bobble): k1 st, but don't slide it off your left needle, instead wrap the yarn around your right needle as if you're doing a purl stitch, then go back into your original knit stitch and wrap the yarn around once more, then you can slide it off, so it creates 3 stitches.
Turn your work around to the back side, and purl those three stitches.
Turn your work to the front and knit them.
Then turn them around and purl them once more, then turn it around and knit the three stitches together.

To make the hat, first cast on 84 stitches with size 8 straight needles.
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K3, MB all the way across.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: Knit.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: K1, MB, k3 all the way across.
Row 8: Purl.
Rep rows 1-8 until your work is about 7 inches long.

Then you can start shaping the crown.
Row 1: keep on knitting 3, then making a bobble, but every 5 stitches, k2tog. This might mean knitting two together and making a bobble in the same stitch.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: K4, k2tog all the way across.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: same thing as row 1, except k2tog every 3 sts.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: K2, k2tog all the way across.
Row 8: Purl.
Row 9: same thing as row 1, except k2tog every other stitch.
Row 10: Purl.
Row 11: K2tog all the way across.

Cut off a tail of about 2-3 feet, thread it onto your yarn needle, and transfer the stitches from your knitting needle onto your yarn needle. Pull tight, then sew up the side of the hat.

Lastly, I'd like to announce the results of my first poll! I asked you knitters what your favorite type of knitting needles are, and you said Bamboo, which are my personal favorite!
Bamboo came in at 51% with 32 voters. Second place was metal with 43% and 27 voters. Last place was plastic with 4% and three voters. I will be putting up another poll in a few weeks!

Until then,
Binding Off,

  1. I would really like to knit this hat but it's a bit complecated with all the abbrevations and bobbels so maybe you could change it a bit and make it a bit simperler or simplifie it to make eayier to read?

  2. Hi. Thank you for this pattern. I'm working on this hat now and it is turning out beautifully.

  3. Hi,
How much wool did you use to make this hat? I have a 100g skein and was wondering if this would be enough.

Thank you for your pattern :)

  4. What type of yarn are you using for this pattern?

  5. trying this pattern very interesting but have made bobbles larger knitting the three stiches two times more.
